Junk

I think that everyone should traipse through a junkyard at least once in their life.

I think junkyards are a wonderful place to find memories. You are probably thinking to yourself, "Is she nuts? Trash?" YES!

There is a junkyard on the other side of a neighboring town that I love to visit. I love to go and pull out things for set pieces or props, but also, I just like to look. At this junkyard you can find barber chairs, pianos, cars, tractors, chairs, tables, doors, books...anything. Its like walking into the pages of someone else's photo album.

Look to the left and see a barber chair where woman have gossiped or men have smoked cigars and talked about their wives.

To the right, a piano, keys broke from someone playing glorious melodies in the sanctuary of a church for too many years.

Straight ahead....the VW van. This van is adorned with peace signs and Grateful Dead stickers. Inside, old photographs and a "Save the Earth" trash can.

All of these objects are filled with someone else's memories, left out in the rain for all to see.

some days....

There are some days that may start bad, but by the end of the day you are so excited that you can't sleep.

Today was one of those days.

I love when one creative soul has a thought that sparks a fire of enthusiasm in others. A friend of mine mentioned something in passing that just got my brain reeling. I couldn't stop thinking about it so I spoke with her again. CREATIVE COLLABORATION! Love it!

Good creative ideas always flow like an avalanche. More people get excited and encourage the idea and BAM! I can't explain the excitement.

hmmm...

I've always thought that the color chartreuse was pretentious. It always seems to say "you think you can handle me?" or "just try and find something to go with my shoes! bwahahah."

Peace and Passion

It started one day when I couldn't get an image out of my head. Ideas for paintings usually start this way, but mine came from a dream. I couldn't shake it. The image stretched and morphed into a broader idea until I couldn't ignore it anymore.

Where does true "inner peace" come from?

I immediately sent out an e-mail to several people asking them 3 questions.

1. Occupation?
2. Where do you find *inner peace in your life?
3. If you could choose a tangible object to represent this
peace, what would it be?

*Disclaimer: I realize the phrase "inner peace" is a cliche
and doesn't mean the same thing to everyone. I want you to use your own definition to answer the question.

I figured that I wouldn't get very many replies. Boy, was I wrong! The replies were wonderful! They complimented my idea and turned it into a project!

A series of paintings entitled: "The Peace and Passion Portraits"

Why the name? Well...as I started reading the replies it occurred to me that these two terms ("peace" and "passion")go hand-in-hand. Often times our passions in life give us inner peace.

I think about it everyday, all day long! I sketch and write in a notebook that I now carry with me everywhere. I am exploring new mediums, new styles and possibly straying from canvas! *gasp*

This is going to be a long process, but I couldn't be more excited. I have even recruited a good friend of mine, Tonya, to help with a photography element!
Don't worry, I will post updates and pictures of the process!

Any thoughts?
